Okay, new year time for a quick review. Over in the Taxable I finished December with a profit of $155.87 (5.34%) that closes out 2020 with a profit of $583.69 (23.45%). These are the numbers provided by the account, I did not track them like I should have; but based on that I can estimated that I invested $2489.51 and have a current balance of $3073.20. The account down slightly from the high of $3192.70 (25.52%) it hit on December 15th. Almost all of it came out of the last 3 months of the year. 2020 turned out to be a really good year to be investing as long as you started after the drop. As far as options selling, i’m actually negative; down $25 for the year. That is because as I jumped into things early and the more I learned I changed my strategy and ended up buying back an option for a huge loss and I’ve been making that up since. I did collect $32 in December as well as another $21 from currently open positions (which brings my negative balance to $4). All of this is built into the profit totals I already gave.

Over in the Options IRA, I had a profit of $135.43 (0.71%) for December and $3206.87 (16.73%) for the year. The account started with just $15,955.55 in late October and is now $19,162.42. Within that $482.75 came from options options trades, $303.70 closed in December with $133.05 still open. So a pullback in stocks ate up a lot of the options income, but I still managed to eek out a little profit in December.  The separation of open and closed, even though I have all of the money technically in pocket, helps me visualize the trades as still ongoing. That way if I have to roll them, it doesn’t feel like I’m losing money, I am just not making as much as I had thought.

The Rollover IRA came in better, a profit of $3,674.89 (8.34%) in December, $5432.35 (20.94%) for the year. So far it is looking like Dividend Growth was a solid winner for me in 2020 but the Taxable is eek out a victory over it in pure percentage gains 23.45% to 20.94%. It also wasn’t a bad year for 401Ks, my current 401K was up $821.38 (4.97%) for December and $2733.91 (16.55%) for the year. Now, I had to manually figure this up from the change in market value, which is what I really want to know, how much my money actually appreciated in value. The numbers given by the broker where 5.4% / 18.3% and i’m not sure how those are figured up. It seems like it was a good year to start investing, I’m looking forward to 2021.
